Prototyping USB Applications with OpenUSB

OpenUSB is a new, exciting project that will deliver a capable open source and platform independent USB API. OpenUSB will build off the current libUSB project. The OpenUSB project delivers enough capability to develop a robust USB application and will be compatible for the Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, and Windows Operating Systems. Acquire Devices is currently writing software to allow for rapid USB prototyping/evaluation using the Pike EZ-USB FX2 2.0 High Speed Prototyping Board and the OpenUSB project. We aim to enable developers the ability to get a fast start to developing USB applications when using the Pike EZ-USB FX2 board and the OpenUSB testing software.

Potential Capabilities of the Pike EZ-USB FX2 Evaluation Board and OpenUSB Software

• Benchmark the USB Transfer Rate using Bulk Mode Transfers
• Inspect FX2 Register Contents for Quick Debugging
• Transfer large amounts of data to test the stability and longevity of a USB Bulk Transfer
• Port I/O, Read and Write to I/O pins on the FX2 ports
